Online Shopping Advice

Get Your Online Shopping For Less

All too often we shop at the first store that comes to mind – think about it, you know Schuh always sell the latest must-have pair of shoes so you go to the store, try them on and buy them. Many of us don't realise that when we're shopping, we can get so many items discounted, have them delivered direct to our door – and can still save money on the high street rrp. Why? Because so many manufacturers sell not only to one major store, they’ll wholesale their products out to smaller retailers with online stores.

That’s not to say Schuh doesn’t have an online store - in fact schuhstore.co.uk is one of my favourites - and I’m guilty of paying full price for a pair of the latest pair of Destroy boots, but if you REALLY want a discount on that pair retailing at £125 of your finest, then you will get it.

All with a tiny bit of work of course!

Seeking Discount and Promotional Codes

I found these around 2 years ago when I was first in desperate need to save some cash, or at least buy new things a bit cheaper (new child due = need to save pounds not pennies).

Online discount codes are basically codes that you input in a section at the checkout when you are ready to pay for your goods - enter your given disount or promo code and the published offer will be applied to the total bill at the checkout.

Having been on Ebay, I noticed the sections that ask if you have a promotional code to enter at the checkout, usually when paying by Paypal. I put a simple search term into google to see if I could find a promotional code (discount code Mothercare; online promo code; uk shopping discount – take your pick) and low and behold I found masses of websites that thrive off those of us that want a discount on our standard shopping.
When I first did this, I got a huge fridge freezer at £60 less than it was instore, and had it delivered free when the store were charging £25.

Do your sums, it's well worth looking - and to save you time you will find shopbots like kelkoo are a big help.

Price Comparison Sites

You can use price comparison sites, or ShopBots like (a price comparison and store directory site) easily and they’re very handy. Try Pricerunner for size or use the search box below, just enter what it is you’re looking for, and they’ll show you who’s selling it, and at what cost to you. You then click into the site that’s got the best price for you, order your goods, and voila!

An alternative is an online shopping directory, such as 'Brightbuyer' which is a good directory where you can search for uk online shops, making online shopping easy. On good shopping directories you should be able to see listed some of the best online shops in the uk.
